Minimum Software and Hardware Requirements
What are the minimum hardware and software requirements for using this personals site?
We've tested our site extensively on multiple operating systems and browser configurations. However, depending on individual configuration of each computer system, we can't guarantee that the site will work with every system.
Minimum requirements:

- JavaScript and cookies must be enabled. If you are using Internet Explorer, please ensure that the browser security setting is set at medium or low, since higher settings will disable JavaScipt and cookies automatically.

Additional compatibility issues:
- Norton Internet Security, configurations of software firewalls or ad-blocking programs that control content or disable pop-up windows or ads may prevent the site from functioning properly.
- Currently, we do not support WebTV. WebTV users may experience errors and have trouble submitting forms or accessing pages.

No, but you can create a new profile with a new profile name. If you no longer like your personals name, you can either hide or delete that profile and create a new one. Please note that if you delete your profile, the name that you had will not be available for up to one year from the time that you delete it, so other members won't get confused by someone taking your discarded name right away.

It's easy and only takes a couple of minutes to create a profile - and it's free! Just click on the "Create Profile" link to fill out the profile questionnaire. This is your opportunity to create your online personality and let others know more about you and who you're looking for. When you create a profile, you'll also be able to use the two-way matching feature and receive messages from other members.
Once you create or update your profile, it may take up to an hour before your profile is available for searching and getting matched.

We encourage our members to express themselves to the fullest when trying to make a connection, but we do have a few guidelines. Each profile is reviewed by our Customer Service Content Review team to provide our members with a friendly place to meet others. We revise our guidelines from time to time, so please check back regularly.
We may remove/reject profiles that violate our Terms of Service and/or contains any of the following:
- Any direct contact information such as, but not limited to: email addresses, URLs, ICQ/IM identification, phone numbers, and addresses.
- Commercial solicitations or advertisements
- Abusive language of any kind (i.e. racism, bigotry)
- Unauthorized use of copyrighted material

While we never reveal your true identity or email address to other members, it is nice if they know a little bit about you when you contact them with a message or a request to chat. We don't ask much - the only mandatory fields are profile name, age, gender, location and your relationship and gender preferences. And if you don't want your profile viewable by everyone, just select the "hide profile" option when you create or edit your profile, or when you use "Manage Profiles". When you hide your profile, it will only be viewable to people who you contact or respond to via the messaging system or on the Instant Gratifier live chat.

Sure, you can have up to five different profiles at a time. Perhaps you'd like to try out different approaches to see which works best for you. You can have only one active profile online in the Instant Gratifier chat at any time, but you can change that as often as you like by clicking on the "Manage Profiles" link and following the instructions there.

Just click on the "Manage Profiles" link, select the profile you'd like to edit (if you have more than one profile) and then make any changes you'd like. It's a good idea to update your profile often since it'll bring you to the top of the search results as a recently updated profile. You'll also be able to change your active profile here. Your active profile is the one that shows you as online in search results and the profile name that you'll appear as in the Instant Gratifier live chat.

If you filled out your gender and/or birth date incorrectly during registration, please send the following information to [email protected]:
- Member name (not your personal profile name)
- Email address associated with your account
- Your corrected gender and/or birth date in mm/dd/yyyy format (e.g. 11/26.1973)
We'll correct the mistakes and let you know when the changes are complete via email.

Yes, just go to the "Manage Profiles" link and you can delete your profiles. However, we recommend hiding your profile instead if you don't want to be publicly displayed in searches. Once a profile is deleted, the profile name cannot be reused for up to one year to avoid identity confusion.

No, they won't be able to respond to any messages sent by your deleted profile, so be very careful when you delete a profile since we can't reinstate it.

By creating a personal profile with this box checked (it appears at the bottom of the "create profile" form), you are granting us permission to publish or televise your personals profile and photo in any of our partner print publications or television promotion efforts. If you don't want us to use your photo, make sure that this box isn't checked when you submit this form. If you uncheck this box after saving your new profile, the change will not be effective for 8 weeks due to print publication lead times. However, we may excerpt text quotes from any personals profile, along with the personal profile name, and feature them online or on profiles, supplements and contact pages in any partner print publication.

Photos in Profiles
Hey good-looking, why not? Posting a photo with your profile allows others to get a better idea of who you are and everyone likes looking at pictures. Also, profiles with photos get viewed eight times more than profiles without photos.

To ensure that photos are appropriate, our Customer Service team reviews each photo that is submitted to our system. Photos should meet the following guidelines:
- Post a recent photo of yourself.
- You must appear in each photo you post. Images of pets, children alone or copyrighted images such as cartoons or celebrities will be removed.
- Do not post images of abusive, obscene, or sexual situations or the profile and/or image will be removed.

You can upload up to six photos to your photo album and associated up to three with each profile. Just follow the easy directions on the page.

You can email images to us or send photos using regular mail.
Email your photo: Email your photo files and we'll upload the photos exactly as they're submitted. Approved emailed photos will be posted within 5 business days. Send files to [email protected] with the Subject: Photo Help and include the following information:
- First and Last Name
- Member name
- Personals site you registered with
- Registered email address
- Profile name you want your image associated with
- Photo as an attachment
- Specify which file should be your primary photo
- Specific details and error message you received when trying to upload your image
- Browser type and version (Internet Explorer 5, Netscape 7, AOL 5, etc.)
- Operating system (Windows XP, Windows 98, MAC OSX, etc.)
Mail your photo: Mail us any photo up to 8.5 X 11 but no smaller than 2 x 2. We'll scan it and upload it to the personal profile that you specify. Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you want the photo returned to you. You must provide correct postage or the photo will not be returned. Please note that mail sent by services such as FedEx or UPS cannot be delivered to a PO Box. Please send by regular mail and NOT by Priority Mail. Using Priority Mail may delay processing of photos. Please include all of the following information:
- First and Last Name
- Member name
- Personals site you registered with
- Registered email address
- Profile name you want your image associated with

Responding to Messages
No, our personals system is completely private and anonymous. We alert members that you've responded to their profile by sending a notification to their email address. They then need to log into the personals in order to retrieve the message. Members only know you by your profile name unless you provide them with the information directly. It's completely free to register, search, post a profile, and perform two-way matches! The only time we require payment is if you want to initiate contact with another member. Currently it costs 1 credit to send a message in the personals system, 2 credits for a 30-minute session of live chat and 3 credits for a 60-minute session in live chat.

No, you only need credits to initiate a response or to start a chat session. If someone replies to your profile or sends you an Instant Gratifier live chat request, it's always free for you to reply to them. In order to reply to a message for free, you must use the reply link in the actual response. If you click on the "reply to profile" button in the profile itself, you will be charged for your reply.

Credits are the currency of the personals. You can use them to initiate messages and session in live chat. If you don't have any credits and you try to respond to a profile or send someone a chat request, you will be asked to purchase credits. Instead of paying for a subscription that gives you access to all services for a limited time (regardless of whether you're interested in all services or whether you use the services at a cost-effective rate), a credits system allows you to buy a package of credits and spend them whenever you like on only the services that most interest you.

If you don't want to spend a credit to respond to someone's profile, try sending them a collect call and see if they're interested enough to foot the bill. Note: if you send a collect call, you're more likely to get a response if you've filled out a lot of information in your personal profile and uploaded a photo - so they know you're worth responding to.

Just click "reply" and you'll be asked if you want to spend a credit to reply. If you don't feel like replying, just ignore the collect call and you won't have to spend a thing.

You'll receive an email at the email address that you registered for the personals with, letting you know that someone has responded to your profile. To retrieve the message, all you need to do is log into the personals and click on the "My Messages" link to see what your secret admirer has to say.

Click on the "My Account" link and you can change the email address your account is associated with. If you change your email address, a confirmation email is sent to your new email address that will ask you to confirm the change in your account.

If someone sends you a message that you don't want to receive messages from, you can block them by adding them to your block list from the message page. You will no longer receive messages from this member and you will always appear offline. If you feel that you are being harassed by a fellow personals member, please send an email with your specific complaint either using our help form or by sending an email to out Customer Service Team at [email protected]. We will investigate the issue and take appropriate action.

Did you add a photo? That will dramatically improve your chances of getting a response. Also, the more information you provide in your profile, the better. Try updating your profile since this will move you up in the search results as an updated profile. Anyway, don't just sit there waiting for someone to respond to your profile - get out there and start replying to profiles yourself!

If you are performing searches and profiles that you aren't interested in keep appearing in your results, just click on the ""Don't View Again" link associated with that particular profile and they will no longer appear in your search results. If you want to review the profiles that you've put in this list, just access the list by clicking on "My Hot List" to manage all your lists.

Searching and Getting Matched
Searching allows you to select the criteria of the people that you'd like to meet. You don't need a personal profile in order to perform searches. However, if you want to get matched, you'll need to create a profile. The get matched feature is a two-way match that finds matches exclusively for you based on the information that you provided in your profile. When you use this feature, we find profiles of members who you're looking for, who are also looking for you.

There are various ways to search on our system.
Option 1: Quick Search
The quick search allows you to search based on the gender, age and location.
Option 2: Advanced Search
When you select the advanced search, you can specify all the parameters of the quick search to look for others who like the same kinds of music or books. You can also choose parameters such as height, weight, eye color and hair color as well as refining your search to the most recently updated profiles, so your results are always the freshest.
Option 3: Profile Name Search
Maybe a profile name sounds familiar since you've seen them featured on the homepage or printed in a local publication and you want to check them out. The profile name search allows you to find the profiles that may have caught your eye.

The search results are ordered to give you the freshest mix of profiles, based on a member's login activity in the personals. We found that our previous ordering system of showing the most recently updated profiles in chronological order gave an advantage to members who saved their profiles constantly, which served up the same old profiles each time you searched.
With the new system, you'll find the freshest faces of members who have been active on the site most recently along with profiles which were recently updated. This increases the likelihood of getting responses from members who are actively using the personals.

If you have a personal profile, just click on the "get matched link" and we'll provide two-way matching results. In two way-matching, we'll find matches of people who you are looking for who are also looking for you based on the "basic information" section of your profile.

No, you don't need a cam to chat and see video feeds of other members who do have cams enabled. To get the full benefits of the video chat and let others see you live, you will need to purchase a web cam. If you don't have a cam, users will see a still image of your primary photo when you're chatting.

If you've initiated a session, you can have up to six public and private chat sessions at one time with anyone who is online now. Just look for the "online now" icon in a personal profile or in search results. If you're in a public chat room, you can request a private chat with anyone in the public room list.

Just double-click on the online now icon in a profile of someone who interests you to spawn the flash pop-up chat window. You can start sending messages as soon as you purchase a 30 or 60 minute session.

On each page of the personals on the upper right corner is the Instant Gratifier messaging console which displays the online status for your active personal profile and if you have any chat requests waiting for you.

To add someone to your Hot List, just go to their personal profile and click on the "Add To Hot List" link. You can also add a member to your Hot List when you're in public chat rooms by rolling over their names and selecting the "Add to Hot List" link when the navigation pops up.

This is a two-way notification of a match on your Hot Lists. When someone on your Hot List adds your profile to their Hot List, you will both receive an email to indicate that the two of you are a match. It works the same way when you add someone to your Hot List who has your profile on their Hot List.
You can turn this feature off in the My Account section, but then you won't know if you have any Hot List matches! If your profile is hidden, the Hot List notification is automatically turned off. If you block someone that is on your hot list and they add you to their hot list, neither party will receive a notification.

Just click on the "block" link in your chat window and they won't be able to send you messages or chat requests within the system. You will always appear offline to blocked members and they will never come up in your search results.

If you are hidden, no one can see that you're online and you cannot receive chat requests. You can still contact users for private live chat but cannot enter public chat. To use public chat, you're status must be "online". If your active profile is hidden, you cannot use public chat.

All chat requests appear in your "wait list" when you open the Instant Gratifier chat window. Roll over the profile name and select "start chat" to open a chat window. You can have up to six simultaneous public and private chat sessions at one time.

Yes, you can send as many chat requests as you want within a chat session, but remember that you can only have six simultaneous chats at a time.

If the person you requested a chat with doesn't get to your chat request within your chat session, your chat invite will be removed from their queue. They may also be busy having a conversation with someone else, so don't take it personally. Just try sending a chat request to someone else that sparks your interest.

You can still contact someone if they're not online. Just go to their profile and click on the "Reply to Profile" link to send them an email.

Rules and Safety Tips
Please contact us via the help form or send us an email with the subject "Abuse Report" to [email protected] and our Customer Service Department will investigate the matter and take appropriate action. Please include your full name, the email associated with your account, the personals nickname(s) of the alleged abuser, and a detailed description of the abuse.

Canceling Your Account
Just send an email to [email protected] with the SUBJECT: "Cancel Personals Account" and we will disable your account. When you cancel your account, your profiles and photos will immediately be deleted and your profiles will no longer come up in searches.
