What is the Instant Gratifier?
The Instant Gratifier is just that a way to chat with other people who are online in the The Stranger Personals right now. It's like an instant messenger, localized to your very own personals community. And if you have a nice time IG-ing with someone, don't forget to add them to your Hot List so you'll be alerted the next time they're online!
The console (in the upper right corner of the personals) will always let you know (after you've logged in) how many people are online in the Personals, and how many new messages you have.
The pop-up window (which opens as soon as you click on any of the buttons in the console, or any IG buttons anywhere else on the site) is where you can send and read messages and find out if your friends are online.
How do I send an IG note?
Just click on the "send a note" button anywhere you see it in the pop-up window, in the console, in a personal ad or next to their nickname on any search page. You can send a note to any member who is online (look for the "online now" blinking green icon on their ad).
What does the pop-up window do?
The pop-up window is where you send and receive IG notes.
What does the console do?
The console (in the upper right corner of the personals) lets you know how many people are online in Personals, and how many new messages you have. It also lets you call up the pop-up window in order to send and receive IG notes.
How do I know if I've got a new IG note?
The console (in the upper right corner of the personals) will always let you know (after you've logged in) how many new messages you have.
Who should I send an IG to?
Anyone who's online now who you feel like chatting with!
What is the Hot List?
The Hot List is your favorites list. If you add someone to your Hot List, you'll be alerted as soon as they log on to Personals.
How do I know if people from my Hot List are online?
A message will appear in the pop-up window telling you how many people from your Hot List are online. If you click on this message, you will be taken to a page that tells you which of your potential love interests are online.
How do I add someone to my Hot List?
To add someone to your Hot List, just go to their personal ad and click on the "add to hot list" link.
How do I remove someone from my Hot List?
Click on the "Hot List" link in the pop-up window and you'll see a "delete" button next to each saved nickname.
What is my "blocked members" list?
If someone sends you an IG note and you click "block," that member will not be able to send you another IG note until you unblock them. You can unblock them by clicking on the "view blocked members" link that appears on your Hot List. From there, you can delete members from your block list.
How do I block another member from IG-ing me?
Just click the "block" link when you receive an IG note from them. You can unblock them by clicking on the "view blocked members" link that appears on your Hot List. From there, you can delete members from your iblock list.
How do I find out which members I've blocked?
Click on the "view blocked members" link that appears on both your Friend File and your Hot List. You can get to your Hot List from the Instant Gratifier pop-up windowm.
How do I unblock a member once I've blocked them?
You can unblock them by clicking on the "view blocked members" link that appears on your Hot List. From there, you can delete members from your block list.
How do I change which nickname I'm using in the Instant Gratifier?
You can build as many different personal ads as you like, but only one of your personals nicknames can be online in the Instant Gratifier at any given time. You can choose which nickname will be your IG identity by clicking on the "create/edit ads" button and following the instructions there.
What if I don't want people to IG me?
No problem, just click on the "hide me" button that appears on every screen in the pop-up window. When you're ready to IG again, just click on the "show me" button that appears on every screen in the pop-up window.
How do I "unhide" myself so people can IG me again?
When you're ready to IG again, just click on the "show me" button that appears on every screen in the pop-up window.
What if I never want to use IG? Can I hide myself permanently?
Sure, but you don't know what you're missing! Just click on the "my account" link in the text navigation bar at the bottom of any page and follow the instructions there.
Oops! I closed the pop-up window by mistake. What do I do?
No problem, just click on any of the links in the console (in the upper right corner of the personals) and the pop-up will reappear. And don't worry, if you were in the middle of a paid session, the IG will remember that when you re-open the pop-up window. (Note: Closing the window will not pause your IG session. The timer will keep running, so you should re-open the window immediately to avoid losing any time.)
How much does the Instant Gratifier cost to use?
If someone sends an IG note to you, it's free for you to respond. If you want to initiate an IG session (i.e. send someone an IG note), it will cost you two credits for thirty minutes or three credits for sixty minutes. Once you've paid for a session, you can IG as many people as you like. Remember, once you've started an IG session (by sending a note successfully), there's no stopping or pausing, and you can't save it for later. So pee before you start!
Do I have to spend credits to reply to an IG note?
Nope! It's always free to respond to an IG note.
How do I buy credits?
Just click on the "buy credits" link that you see in every screen of the pop-up window, and also in the text links at the bottom of every page. Or, if you attempt to send an IG note to someone, you will be prompted to buy credits.
What if someone sends me an IG and I don't want to respond?
No problem, just click the "block" button at the bottom of the message and they won't be able to IG again until you unblock them from the "view block list" link on your hot list page.
Can I send IGs to more than one person in one session?
Of course, once you've started a session, you can IG as many people as your little heart desires.
What happens if I receive more than one IG note at the same time?
No problem, just use the "next message" link or the arrows at the bottom of the pop-up to move back and forth between messages.
How do I know how much time is left in my IG session?
There is a countdown at the very top of the pop-up window.
Can I send an IG to someone who is not online?
No. This is all about instant gratification, remember?
Can I use the IG when I'm surfing elsewhere on the Web?
Sure, just keep the pop-up window open. If you close the pop-up window by mistake (or if it closes on its own because you've left it inactive for too long) just return to any page in the Nerve-Salon Personals and click on a link in the console to reopen the pop-up window. (The console is the IG control panel in the bottom left corner of your screen, in the frame to the left of the banner ad.)
I sent someone an IG note and they didn't respond. What gives?
Don't take it personally! Maybe they're busy IG-ing with another member. Just try sending an IG to someone else.
What happens if I send an IG and the person goes offline by the time it arrives?
It will be there for them to read the next time they log on to Personals (though if they want to reply to you, they will then have to pay to initiate a session).
Can I read old IG notes?
Yes, we save all the IG notes you've sent and received for 30 days. Just click on the "history" link in the pop-up window to search old notes.
